What is acupuncture? ~   Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical therapy that has been in use for over 3,000 years. It is used for preventive care, health maintenance and treatment of disease. It involves the insertion of very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to alleviate symptoms.

What does it feel like? ~ Usually, patients report that they feel no pain or minimal pain during an acupuncture treatment.  It is typical to feel a dull or heavy sensation at the site of acupuncture needle insertion. This sensation subsides in intensity during the treatment.  After the treatment, some patients feel relaxed, while others feel energized.

How can acupuncture help me? ~ The World Health Organization officially recognizes acupuncture as suitable for the treatment of over two hundred common clinical disorders. Traditional Chinese medical theory explains that human beings have a natural flow of energy through the body. The theory holds that pain and disease are caused by an imbalance or blockage of the energy called Qi.  The goal of traditional Chinese medicine is to help restore balance and harmony to the flow of Qi and thus return the body to a healthy state.
